More Than a Logo: The COASTAL Story
At COASTAL Orange Beach Restaurant, it’s not just about what’s on your plate; it’s about the entire experience: the waterfront views of the Gulf of America, the feel of a salty breeze on your skin, and the sound of live music from local musicians floating through the air. Every element of COASTAL Orange Beach was created to celebrate this one-of-a-kind stretch on the Alabama Gulf Coast. And that spirit is captured perfectly in the restaurant’s logo.
But how did this logo come to be? The story goes back to the very beginning of COASTAL’s vision.
When co-owners John McInnis III and Cameron Price first dreamed up COASTAL, they weren’t thinking about building any other beach bar. As Cam says, “Our vision for COASTAL was to create something truly special, an experience unlike anything else on the Gulf of America. Our beaches and waters are among the best in the world, and we wanted to design a space that celebrated these incredible natural resources”.
John and Cam found inspiration for the restaurant and bar while traveling throughout their lives. John, a local to Orange Beach, has been exploring the Virgin Islands since he was a kid and wanted to bring their relaxing vibes to the Gulf Coast. Cam grew up sharing his time between California and Hawaii and “fell in love with the open-air nature of the bars and restaurants. Even if it’s a little easier to pull off there, thanks to the lower summertime humidity,”. Combining their love for the beach, the two became determined to bring “that same open-air spirit to the Gulf Coast”.
Determined to offer guests the ultimate view, the team at COASTAL elevated the entire restaurant site 10 feet “to ensure guests can see the Gulf and our stunning white sand beaches from anywhere on the property”, as explained by Cam.
At the heart of COASTAL is a spacious green lawn, anchored by a see-through stage where live and local bands perform daily, adding the perfect dose of energy and fun, without blocking the incredible view. Everything about the design is intentional, built to honor the beauty of the Gulf of America.
So, when it came to designing the logo, John and Cam wanted something that would tell that same story, but in a clean, simple, and elegant way. As stated by Cam, “More than anything, COASTAL is a place where families and friends come to make memories and soak up everything the Gulf Coast has to offer” and their logo needed to represent that.
According to co-owner Cam, “The emerald green in the logo mirrors the color of our coastal waters on the best days of the year, and the blue, my personal favorite, adds a bold, welcoming touch. Finally, the capitalized "AL" proudly represents our great state of Alabama, home to these spectacular beaches.”.
The logo is simple, but it says so much about the place, the people, and their love for creating an unforgettable beachside destination. So, the next time you find yourself sipping a margarita at COASTAL’s Beach Bar, tapping your toes to live music, or watching the sunset paint the sky in vivid colors, take a look at that logo on the menu, your napkin, or your new t-shirt. It’s more than a mark, it’s a symbol of the experience, the view, and the memories waiting to be made here on the shores of Orange Beach.
